“Let us share the good news that Jesus is risen.”
Mark 16:6-7 Worthy Brothers All, Our faith as Christians is defined by the resurrection of Christ. We celebrate Easter as a season of hope, joy, and courage. It is a time to renew our commitment to our faith and family. It is a time for Knights to affirm our core values of charity, unity, and fraternity. Many thanks to Brother Vince Garra, program director of our very successful Friday Lenten dinner program. Thanks to his many guest chefs that each Friday, before Stations of the Cross, prepared delicious meals at a very reasonable price. The Knights of Columbus Friday fish dinner is a Santa Sophia tradition. Many hundreds of guests were served again this year. Father Bosco sent a thank you note to our Council for our donation of $500 to his mission trip to Uganda. He reported our donation will be used to buy mango seedlings. The trees will be planted in his native village by children and young adults as a community project. Father Bosco will send pictures and report on the mission project upon his return to our parish. Thank you to our Financial Secretary, Leo McGarry, for his organization of all of the service award reports sent by our Brothers. Each program director reported about their events. Thanks to our PGK Ed Dondero for coordinating traffic control with a few Brother Knights on Palm Sunday. His attention to safety enabled our Parishioners to participate in the procession worry free. April is the month for the Bishop Flores Scholars in need drive. The program represents an effort by our San Diego Diocese with the support of the Knights of Columbus to raise funds for children in need of Catholic school tuition assistance. Knights may donate individually online at https://giving.diocese-sdiego.org/pages/kc-bishop-flores-scholars. Our Council is happy to once again offer a $1000 scholarship toward tuition and fees at a local Catholic high school to a deserving 8th grader. The student must attend Santa Sophia Academy or belong to our parish and demonstrate a financial need to be eligible to apply. The deadline to apply is April 30. Scholarship program rules and an application can be downloaded from our council website. Can you help prepare or serve at our Knights of Columbus Blood Drive Breakfast on Sunday April 19? It is fun! Meet new friends catch up on things with old pals. We will start at 8 am and serve breakfast until we run out of food or hungry blood donors. Contact PGK Ed Dondero for more information. May 2, a Fourth Degree Exemplification will be held at the San Diego Town and Country Convention center in Mission Valley. Are you a 3rd Degree and you think you are ready to take your commitment to the Knights of Columbus to a whole new level? Are you ready to participate in the Patriotic Degree? Then contact Brother Ed Dondero or Brother Glenn Gary for more information. This week we welcome aboard our new Pastor, Father Devdas Masilamony. He is an active member of the Knights of Columbus and we look forward to working with him in support of the parish. “Let us all as Knights redouble our efforts as men of faith- and men of action based on that faith.” Carl A.
