Worthy Brother Knights:
This is my last Grand Knights Report and my last month as your Grand Knight. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving Council 9332 in this capacity this past year. It has been a very rewarding experience for me, and I hope I have met your expectations for my performance as Grand Knight. I truly appreciate everyone's time and support for our Council's activities during the year. On the weekend of May 17-20, DGK Shawn Reidy and I attended the annual Knights of Columbus State Convention held in San Diego. All of the hard work and efforts we put into our Council's events and activities paid off as we received the following statewide service awards for Division 4 (in which we had competed against approximately 30 to 140 other councils, depending on the service award category): Church - 1st Place Community - 1st Place Culture of Life - 1st Place Council - 2nd Place Youth - 2nd Place Vocations - 3rd Place Council Website - 3rd Place in State!-Shawn Reidy webmaster Family - 8th Place Youth Service - 1st Place in State!(Nazareth Orphanage Outreach Program) Last January, Leo McGarry, Pat Esquibel, and I judged essays written by Santa Sophia Academy eighth graders. We had selected Alyse Saucedo as our Council's winner for her essay on the importance of religious freedom. At the state convention, it was announced that her essay won first place for eighth graders in statewide competition. The winner of our annual $1000 scholarship for eighth graders attending Catholic high schools next year was Ryan Melcher. Thanks go to the scholarship committee comprised of Randy Klotz, committee chairman, Nick Klotz, Ed Dondero, Patrick Esquibel, Ed Reidy, Leo McGarry, and Greg Villard Our Council conducted a very successful membership drive on the weekend of June 3-4. From the drive, we had five Catholic gentlemen sign up to be Knights with two going through first (admission) degree ceremonies last night. If all goes as planned, our Council has a good shot at making Star Council this year. Also, if any of you Brothers have any friends or relatives who are Catholic gentlemen and who might be interested in joining our Council, please contact me. Remember, every Brother is a recruiter for our Council. Congratulations to our new Brothers who made their first (admission) degree this past month: John Dandas, Barry Coleman, and the following: Anthony J. Opalek Michael Todd Prida Erik Madrigal Welcome Brothers! This Saturday night, our Council will be hosting its 4th Annual Craft Beer Tasting from 7 to 10 p.m. in the CMO courtyard. On June 25, our Council will host its annual officer' installation luncheon in the DeMoor room from 1- 3 p.m. All Brothers and their families and friends are encouraged to attend. Enrich his life and give him a membership in the Knights. Let's continue to work together in the spirit of Fr. Michael J. McGivney with Charity, Fraternity and Unity. If you have not been to a meeting in a while, plan on attending this Thursday and reacquaint yourself with your brothers, and what is currently being planned in your council. I hope to see you next month! Vivat Jesus! Greg Villard | Grand Knight | Valle De Oro |Council 9332 |
