Grand Knight's Report August 2016- WGK Greg Villard

Brothers,
     Well, I have completed my first month as your Grand Knight.  Thank you for all your support and help with all the activities this past month.
     Our Council held its third annual craft beer tasting event on July 23.  This was another huge success with fun for everyone who attended.  Many thanks go to John Martin, the event chair again this year, along with Paul Melcher, the DJ team of Brother Billy Eatmon and his daughter, Paul Melcher, Gary Glen, Ed and Shawn Reidy, Vince Garra, Andre Cleveland, Leo McGarry, Jim Maasch, Ed Dondero, Eric Drake, Dennis Bauer, Diane Garra, Liz Reidy, Eddie Padillo, and others.
     Thank you to Shawn Reidy, Bobby Schaeffer, Ed Reidy, Vince Garra, and Ed Dondero who served a continental breakfast to approximately 100 Parishioners who attended the Father Devdas’s blessing of the Hall on July 24.
     On August 5th, our Council barbequed hamburgers and hot dogs to approximately 300 children and parents at Vacation Bible School.  This cooking crew consisted of Paul Melcher (chairperson), Ed and Shawn Reidy, John Martin, Vince Garra, Dick Wade, Leo McGarry, Andre Cleveland, and Jason Reidy.
     We had 28 Parishioners attend our 5th Sunday Rosary led by Pat Esquibel on July 31.
     Last Friday, Pat Esquibel and his wife Bonnie, Ed and Shawn Reidy, Farris Auro and I attended a Latin Mass that was celebrated to honor the 164th anniversary of Michael J. McGivney’s birth.  It was quite an experience for us to realize how much the celebration of Mass has changed from Latin in the 1960’s to English now.
     On August 11th, our Council sponsored a half table for the Light of Light dinner at a Carlsbad golf course.  This was attended by Jack Crutchfield, Shawn Reidy, Leo Mc Garry, and myself.
     On Saturday, August 27th, the Church and the Academy will be hosting their annual summer picnic and barbeque from 5 to 8p.m.  We have been asked to barbeque hot dogs and hamburgers at this event, as well as staff our Knights of Columbus canopy (to promote our upcoming wine tasting and membership drive). If you are available to help us at this event, please contact me.
     On Sunday afternoon, September 4th, our Annual Marian celebration will take place with a Rosary/ pizza party held at Sam Caeti’s house.  We will send out an email to you with more information about this event as it become available. There is a flyer advertisement on our website's homepage for information.
     On September 17th, we will kick off our Knights on Hikes program with an easy 6 mile walk around Lake Murray.  We will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the boat dock at Lake Murray or, as an alternative, meet at the Church at 7:45 a.m. to carpool.
  On September 24th, Brother Ed Reidy will lead our team of Knights and others to the Outreach for Nazareth Orphanage in Tecate.  If you are interested in going and helping out in this very worthwhile activity, please contact Ed Reidy.
     Our Seventh Annual Wine Tasting Event will be held in the Prendergast Hall on the evening of Saturday, October 1.  I will provide you with more information as it becomes available.
             Please remember to wear your Knights of Columbus name badges to whatever Mass that you attend.  This action will hopefully promote our Council and assist us in gaining new members.     
     If you haven’t been to a meeting in a while, plan on attending this Thursday night and reacquaint yourself with your Brothers and find out what is currently being planned in your Council.  I hope to see you all at the business meeting.
