Worthy Brothers,
So far we are starting off with a good start. Our 5th Sunday Rosary program was a great success with around 37 people attending! This year the Supreme Knight added praying the Rosary as a family. PGK Pat Esquibel ordered booklet from the Home office and passed them out at the event. Adding families to the event is all a part of the Building of the Domestic Church program that was started a few years ago. Our next 5th Sunday Rosary will be October 29th! Thanks to Br. Jim Maasch and PGK Ed Dondero for obtaining our new charcoal grill under budget! This grill came in handy on Friday, August 4th at the VBS cookout/BBQ. Using the new grill and the gas grill, we were able to serve an estimated crowd of 200-300 school children, teachers and parents with hamburgers & hot dogs. Thanks to PGK Paul Melcher and every knight that helped. Everyone enjoyed the meal and we also received a thank you card from the VBS teachers and committee. Next, we restarted the 1st Sunday Family Mass at 11 am on Aug. 5th, with a good turn out. Thanks to all the brother knights who showed up. This past Monday, DGK Leo McGarry, PGK Greg Villard and myself attended the K of C Light & Light Golf Tournament Dinner at the Crossings Golf Course in Carlsbad. It was to benefits their Mobile Ultrasound program. On Tuesday, August 15th on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, a group of Knights, spouses and parishioners from Santa Sophia gather after 7 pm mass to pray a Rosary for peace. I was inspired from the email sent out from the Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, who wanted Knights from around the country to pray for peace in these troubling times. Thanks to all who attended and for PGK Pat Esquibel for leading the Rosary and for turning in his service award write up so promptly. Yes gentlemen, it can be done! A shout out to Br. Dennis Bauer who filled out the service award form from this very website. Bravo to both brothers! Remember, tomorrow night is CATHOLIC MOVIE NIGHT! At 7 pm- the featured movie is a documentary about St. John Paul II called: "Liberating a Continent: John Paul II and The Fall of Communism" See you there! The next list of events are as follows: 1) Annual Rosary & Pizza Party at Sam & Rosa Caeti's on Sunday, Sept. 3rd at 2 pm Sharp! 2)Saturday, Sept. 23rd- the 8th Annual Wine Tasting Celebration 7-10 pm- PGK Greg Villard should have tickets available to sell at he kiosk after weekend masses. 3) Saturday, Sept. 30th- our 1st trip to Tecate-for Outreach for Nazareth Orphanage 4) Parish Council Picnic Faire Oct. 15th 12-3 pm ( details to follow) 5) ID Drive- Oct. 20-22nd Finally, as I have already sent out a notice about our dwindling funds. Yes, we are at a critical level. So I, along with the other Officers are requesting that members pay their 2018 annual dues now instead of in December. This will replenish our bank account and you will have fulfilled your dues obligation for 2018. Don't worry we will keep track of who has paid so that at the Christmas Turkey Dinner in December, you will get your dinner FREE! You can bring cash, check or pay online using our PayPal service on this very website. Just click on the button below. Thanks. If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, please do and see what's happening in your council. Vivat Jesus! A.M.D.G. Shawn Reidy, Grand Knight Email: spreidy814@outlook.com Phone: 619-559-5037 |
