Greetings Worthy Brothers!
Once again brothers, we had members come together make our events a success. First, the Wine Tasting on September 23rd was a fun and entertaining event. Thanks to our newer members: Anthony Opalek, John Dandash, and Ismael Negrete. These new brothers stepped up and made a much needed contribution to the evening by serving as wine pourers. My apologies if I have left out any other new members. Kudos also go to all the more seasoned members like Paul Melcher, Leo McGarry, Ed& Liz Reidy, Pat & Bonni Esquibel, Jerry Kay, Etc.-Vivat Jesus! Hats off to PGK Greg Villard for again executing another great event. I takes a lot of planning and coordinating to make this type of event work. Thanks also go to Patricia Payne & her husband and all the other caterers who provided the delicious food! Next, a group of us trekked down to our first trip to Tecate, Mexico; to serve a hot lunch to the orphans- which now include girls, nuns and volunteers workers at Nazareth Orphanage. On this trip, we were missing our head Chairman, PGK Ed Reidy who was on a vacation. So despite his absence, our experienced travelers managed to collect all the needed supplies to make a hearty meal of hamburgers and hot dogs(Yum). We ended up serving 200+ people and had just enough food to feed them all. At this time I want to give special thanks to all who came along. Each one pitched in and made the trip seem like clockwork: Jim Maasch-who cooked all the hamburgers, hot dogs and baked beans, Chuck Zimmer-thanks for the use of your pickup truck, Eddie Padillo + guest, Jerry Mendoza, Jack Crutchfield, etc. Gentleman , Thank You! After Tecate, we had a small impromptu membership drive on October 8th, coinciding with the Parish's semi-annual Blood Drive. On October 15th, we participated as volunteers in the Parish Family Fun Fest-specifically managing the Biergarten. The event was a fair success. This was the first year that such an event like this took place-separate from the "Summer Blast" picnic in August. Gentlemen, tomorrow and this weekend[October 20-22nd], we are conducting our annual Intellectual Disabilities Drive aka ID Drive, aka Tootsie roll Drive. Please sign up to collect donations-there is a sign up form on this website! Or at least come by our donation sites at Albertson's on Campo Rd. and Smart & Final on Avocado, and donate. We also will outside Santa Sophia church this weekend after mass. Let's make this ID Drive another great success! Special thanks to Noah Homes for providing the posters and promotional materials! Kudos to DGK Leo McGarry for all his hard work in planning and coordinating this year's ID Drive. Coming up after the ID Drive will be coffee & donuts each Sunday in November. On Saturday, November 11th, we will be honoring all our Parish's Veterans both current and past with a delicious Italian pasta dinner prepared by our honorable chefs: Paul Melcher & Sam Caeti. Please keep in mind, we will be hosting another Christmas Turkey Dinner on Sunday, December 10th, after the "Lessons of Carols & Bells" program at 3 pm. The Turkey dinner will start serving at 4 pm as usual. If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, please try to do so. Or bring a fellow Knight with you. These meetings are a way to voice your support for a favorite project or cause or to vote on proposals placed during the meeting. Vivat Jesus! A.M.D.G. Shawn Reidy, Grand Knight 2017-2018 Just a reminder: we are still collecting membership dues. If you want to pay by check, you can bring it at our business meetings, officers meetings or leave it at the Parish office with the receptionist. OR pay online on this website.
