Brothers,
This last month has been a busy one for our Valle de Oro Knights. October 18-20 we were busy passing out Tootsie Rolls in front of Vons and at all the Masses at Santa Sophia. It was great to see so many Knights out in our community wearing the bright yellow aprons and raising money for People with Intellectual Disabilities. ID Drive Chairman Dr. Ed Reidy should have a full report at this month's business meeting. We will be deciding how to distribute the funds from this year's drive at this meeting, so please try to attend - your vote matters. Jack Crutchfield has been busy selling Christmas Cards. Please try to support this effort and help keep Christ in Christmas. He also has some magnets available and great calendars. The money from the calendar sales goes towards funding the mobile ultra-sound vehicles. If you haven't seen these calendars, please stop by the table. There are some beautiful children featured on the pages and it proves how effective the mobile ultra-sound machines can be in saving lives. During November, the Knights have been busy visiting the Tecate Orphanage and hosting the Sunday morning coffee and donuts. And thanks to a donation of pizza by Gaetano's Pizza, we were able to collect $100 for the parish fire restoration fund. Not only has the parish been well fed on Sunday mornings, but the boys at the Tecate orphanage were fed some great homemade soup (thanks Jack) and lots of hot dogs. There are lots of opportunities in the coming months to volunteer your time helping out your council and your parish community. Coming up in December, Jerry Kay and crew will be serving up a great turkey dinner after the Lessons of Carols and Bells on Sunday, December 15th. On January 25th, we will be hosting a dinner that promises to be a great social event with some great food. On Sunday, November 24 there will be the closing ceremonies for the Year of Faith of the Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of San Diego that had been proclaimed by Benedict XVI. During this Year of Faith Catholics were asked to do acts of faith, increase their knowledge of their faith, and help others to discover Faith in Jesus Christ. At this closing ceremony Catholics and their Parishes have been invited to show the fruit of their efforts. DATE Sunday, November 24, 2013 12pm - 5pm LOCATION Mater Dei High School Campus 1615 Mater Dei Drive Chula Vista, CA 91913 All 3rd Degree and 4th Degree Knights are asked to participate. 4th Degree should be in colors or tuxedos. Help is also needed with parking. Have a great Thanksgiving as we remember all that we have to be thankful for. I am thankful for the great organization we belong to and all my brothers that make the Knights of Columbus such a great organization. Yours in Christ, Ed Dondero Grand Knight |
