![]() Worthy Brothers All: “The family is the model place where the faith is transmitted to new generations, or where Christian values are lived.” Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight Active councils are successful councils and our council has remained very active because of your generous donation of your time and talents. Thanks to the many Knights and their families for your contributions to our Parish and community, On Oct 15th Brothers Shawn Reidy and Dennis Bauer conducted our youth soccer challenge event at Santa Sophia Academy. It was a well participated event and congratulations to two contestants, Ryan and Sarah Melcher, on winning the soccer challenge at the state level. On Oct. 14th Our beloved brother, SK Ed McCarthy, passed away. Ed was a charter member of our council and one of our first Grand Knights. He was also a Charter member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Assembly and a past Faithful Navigator. Brother Knights participated in his rosary service and his funeral Mass at Santa Sophia October 22. Ed will always be remembered as a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. On Oct 16th our council membership drive resulted in the election of two new council members, Harry Blanchard and Christian Gregorio, and the transfer in of Brother David Stevens. On Oct 29th Harry and Christian received their First Degrees. On Oct 19th our Council completed our annual Intellectual Disabilities Drive. Thanks to the leadership of Deputy Grand Knight Pat Esquibel and the participation of many Brother Knights, we were able to raise more than three thousand dollars in donations. Well Done Brothers. Every Sunday this month, the Knights are serving coffee and donuts after the 8 and 11 o’clock Masses. We also sell pizza and chips after the 11 AM Mass. Knights are encouraged to stop in and support this event. It is a great opportunity to meet new members to the parish and tell them about the Knights of Columbus. On Sunday, Nov 2nd GK Ed Reidy and Liz along with our Worthy Field Agent Van Fritzenkotter took part in the 40 Days for Life prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood in El Cajon. The event was well attended and made a prayerful statement about the sanctity of life. On Saturday,Nov 8th our Council Tecate Outreach made another support trip to the Nazareth Orphanage. Special thanks to Jack Crutchfield, Ed & Liz and Shawn Reidy, Jim and Rose Maasch, Greg Villard and Jerry Kay for making the event possible. Special thanks to our Parish St. Vincent de Paul and Brother Paul Marquie for their generous donation of food and expert preparation of the chili and hot links that we served to the orphans and volunteers. It was greatly appreciated. Our next outreach to Tecate will be January 10, 2015. That date will also coincide with the Angel Project. The orphans will receive Christmas gifts. Nov 11th: Veterans Day remembrance & Parade. We celebrate and give thanks for all the brave men and women who raised their right hand and took an oath to protect and defend our Nation. Their sacrifices remind us that freedom isn’t free; it has to be paid for. Looking forward, Friday Nov 21, PGK Ed Dondero will receive the Columbian Award on behalf of our Council for our outstanding program participation during the 2013-2014 Columbian year. On Sunday Nov 23rd Father Jacob will hold a Eucharistic Procession into the community in celebration of Christ the King of the Universe after the 11 AM Mass. He has asked for four Knights to help hold the canopy and provide traffic control along Campo Road. If you can help please attend the planning meeting at 9:45 AM Nov 23rd in the Sacristy. Vivat Jesus! On Sunday December 14th music Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will start at 3 PM in Prendergast Hall. Immediately after we will provide a turkey dinner. Remember if you pay your 2015 dues on or before that date your turkey dinner is free! Remember Brothers when all things religious seem to be discouraged we remind people to keep Christ in Christmas through the sale of Christmas cards with a religious theme. Christmas is a Holy Day in celebration of the birth of Christ. If you need religious cards or car magnets contact Brother Jack Crutchfield. Yours in Christ, Ed Reidy Grand Knight |
