![]() Worthy Brothers All, By our standards, Jesus did things all wrong when He called His Disciples. He didn’t chose the “Best and the Brightest”, in fact He summoned very ordinary men working in the community, without regard to origin, social status, or past life. His Disciples were not the most powerful, most educated, or wealthiest of those times. However those twelve ordinary men, through the example and teachings of Jesus, changed the world. When God looks at people, he sees not only what we are, but also what we can become. Make a difference, be an active Knight. Congratulations to Sarah and Ryan Melcher on winning the State soccer shoot out championship in their respective divisions. Their trophies are on the way. Way to go, you made our SSA community proud. Last month our Council was awarded the first “Be the Difference Award” from our Chapter. The award is for outstanding service to our church, order, and community. It was tremendous and humbling to have our Council’s many talented and dedicated Knights recognized by our Brother Knights at Chapter. On Jan 23 Brother Pat Esquibel and I had the privilege of presenting a check to Noah Homes in the amount of $2912.12. The proceeds from our Council Intellectual Disabilities Drive last October. On Jan 30, Brothers Greg Villard and Leo McGarry presented three cash awards of $100, $75, and$50 to the top 8th grade essay contest winners at Santa Sophia Academy. The top essay was forwarded to our Chapter to compete at the next level. Saturday Jan.31 Worthy PGK Ed Dondero along with many Brother Knights participated in the San Diego walk for Life in Balboa Park. Brother Dennis Bauer has been an outstanding youth director for the Council and SSA. He qualified 12 of our Academy students to compete at the Chapter Basketball Free throw contest on Feb 14 at Saints High School. Of those we know Damien Bloemandaal placed first in the boys age 14 division. We hope to get more information soon. The State Championship will be March 21 in Fresno.
