Grand Knight's Report December 2014

Worthy Brothers All:
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Holy New Year!
Ecce Dominus Venit! Behold, The Lord comes.

      It is very easy to get so caught up in the busy Christmas Season and forget the true purpose of Advent. Shopping, decorations and social events can occupy our thoughts day and night. Advent is a time for prayer, penance, and the Holy Eucharist. As Knights, we purposefully bring the joy of our Catholic faith into our family. It is a time to hold conversations about the meaning of the Advent Season.
It is a time to invite family and friends that may have drifted from the Church to come home.

     Thank you to all our Brother Knights and their family members for serving coffee and donuts and selling pizza every Sunday last month. Everyone had a great time and good food.

    Thank you to Brother Jack Crutchfield as he completes a very successful Christmas card sales program. Jack reminded everyone through his religious card sales that Jesus is the reason for the Season. Thanks to Brother Ed Dondero for delivering our Council donation of 10 boxes of Spanish language Christmas cards to the Diocese prison outreach program.

      Brothers Leo McGarry, Ed Dondero, Randy Klotz, and Harry Blanchard exhibited the Knights best tradition of service to the community when they participated in the Common Ground bike assembly and Christmas giving to needy children in our Spring Valley community. They helped to assemble a record setting 95 bikes in less than 2 hours.  Way to go Brothers! Your efforts will make a lot of children very happy this Christmas Season.

   Special Thanks to Brother Ed Page for his generous $100 contribution to the Angels Project. This program will purchase and deliver Christmas Gifts to orphan residents of Nazareth Orphanage in Tecate. His gift will make many orphans happy with toys and warm clothing.

   Thank you to Pat and Bonnie Esquibel, Ed and PJ Dondero, Leo and Gisela McGarry, and Greg Villard along with Liz and I, for attending and supporting the Light and Life Pro Life Gala in Carlsbad last week.  Our Council support of $500 contributed to the purchase of another ultrasound van to raise awareness of the value and sanctity of unborn human life. As Knights we stand for a Culture of Life.

     A heartfelt, Thanks  goes to Chef Paul Michael and all our hard working Brother Knights that helped to bring Christmas joy and cheer to our Parish family with a delicious Turkey Dinner. A Santa Sophia tradition that just gets better every year.

    Finally, Congratulations to all our Council members and PGK Ed Dondero on receiving the Columbian Award for outstanding service program participation in Columbian year 2013-14.  This award is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects our members’ extraordinary faith and capabilities, but the race is not over my brothers. There are still many challenges and opportunities ahead.
