Grand Knight's Report for July 2017 by GK Shawn Reidy

Greetings Worthy Brothers!

We start another new Columbian year with many things to accomplish. I want to thank you for trusting me with being your new Grand Knight and I know that together we can make this year another success!
Fortunately, many of the events and projects planned, are the same as last year so get ready to do it again with the same gusto.
I would like to give a shout out to Br. Dennis Bauer, who answered the call to: 1) buy 14 cases of water and 2) deliver those bottles of water downtown to San Diego High School, Monday, July 17th for the  Stand Down Project to help Homeless Veterans in San Diego.
Thanks again Br. Dennis. Thanks too, goes to Br. Paul Marquie who took time to try to secure some water for us through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. It did not work out unfortunately.
Here is a list of events coming up very soon:

• 5th Sunday/Family Rosary-July 30th, after the 8 am Mass. In place of the 1st Sunday Family Mass, I thought that this would be equally important to gather together with Knights and our families and families of fellow parishioners to pray the Rosary. This is incidentally being promoted by the Supreme Home Office as part of the "Building up the Domestic Church by encouraging families to recite the Rosary, both at church and at home.
• Friday, August 4th- VBS or Vacation Bible School BBQ. Br Paul Melcher will again head this fun event. If you haven't already, please sign up to help that morning. Set up begins at 9 am and we should be ready to serve anytime after 11 am! Please come to Thursday's Council business meeting to sign up and get final details. • Monday, August 14th- The K of C Light and Life Summer '17 Golf and Dinner Classic  This charity event is to raise money for the purchase of more Mobile Ultrasound vehicles. Prices are: $600 per 4-some; $150 per player; and $50 per person for the dinner only. Tee Time is @ 11:30 am; Dinner starts around 6 pm.
• Friday, August 18th-Catholic Movie Night 7 pm in the DeMoor Rm. Featured film: Liberating a Continent: John Paul II and the Fall of Communism. Free soft drinks and popcorn will be served.
• Saturday, August 26th- SSA Summer Picnic -TBD; we have been asked to grill hamburgers and hot dogs. Details pending a response from Karen Laaperi.
• Sunday, September 3rd- 2pm Sharp! Annual Rosary Pizza Party at Sam & Rosa Caeti's Home. Bring a side dish or beverage and of course your Rosary.
• Saturday, September 23rd- Our First trip to Tecate! We will meet at SS at around 8:30 am and leave by 10 am.
• Saturday, September 23rd- The 8th Annual Wine Tasting Gala in Prendergast Hall at 7 pm to 10 pm
• October- our annual Intellectual Disabilities Drive- tentative plans are for the weekend of Oct 13th through Oct. 15th OR Oct. 20th-Oct. 22nd.

​       I have made some additions to this website in order to streamline and reduce the newsletter that you normally receive. Many of the items featured in the previous newsletter are now found on the homepage, such as members birthdays, attendance drawing, prayer warriors, meeting schedules and many others like this Grand Knights Report are now on this website. My intention is to have everyone use this website as much as possible.
      I would like to encourage everyone who will chair an event or project, to fill out a service award form as soon as the event is completed-while it is still fresh in your memory. There is a downloadable State form located on the homepage that can be filled out online and then attached to an email to me. I have also created a page that has a simplified state form that anyone can just fill out the information that is required and then hit "submit":

What I am trying to stress is for those who chair an event to get that information to me and the Service Award committee, ASAP! So we don't have the last minute rush in March. Thanks in advance.
     I have also added or revived some social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram  for our council. Links to them are in the "accordion" box on the home page.  Just click on the last line with+.   If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, please come and get involved in YOUR Council!
So brothers, we've got our work cut out for us. Together we can make this Council shine next May at the State Convention in Sacramento!
